Yoga instructor arrested for m.urdering and eating her mother's corpse

Just before noon of June 28, a woman, accompanied by her relatives, turned herself in at a police box.

On the same day, the Chiba Prefectural Police Investigation Division 1 arrested the 45-year-old suspect Kahori Arata, who lived in an apartment in Minami-Gyotoku, Ichikawa-shi, on suspicion of corpse destruction and abandonment. The suspect is believed to have m.urdered her mother, 75-year-old Hiroko. 

The two apparently were living together. She worked at a sports gym in Tokyo and was an instructor of yoga and Zumba. With a bright and lively personality, she is said to have been popular among male students as a beautiful instructor. 

On the other hand, she seemed to have been troubled by her relationship with Hiroko. Hiroko was not feeling well and had been suffering from depression for several years. According to Japanese television, she has had her mom exorcized by a spiritualist before.

According to a Facebook post from one spiritualist, the suspect also has much interest in the spiritual world and has attended such events many times. 

The suspect told the police about her motive for committing the crime: “I needed to go training to become a medium. I couldn’t do so if my mom was there, so I k.illed her.”

Why couldn’t she proceed with her training if Hiroko was there? Why was there a need to mutilate and eat her corpse? There are still many mysteries about the suspect’s behaviors that have yet to unfold.
