The Yamanashi Prefectural Government is in its final stage of planning to provide financial assistance for the cryopreservation of eggs, in consideration for healthy women who struggle to find the balance between getting pregnant and pursuing their career prospects.
The prefecture had been promoting “preconception care” as a countermeasure against Japan’s aging population and declining birthrate. This includes managing one’s health in preparation for when they wish to become pregnant. Subsidies for egg-freezing costs are also part of this initiative.
The program will be available to women living in the prefecture, on the condition that they agree to participate in preconception care and are willing to learn about the associated risks of egg retrieval beforehand.
Further details about the subsidies are still being finalized.
