38-year-old head patrol officer in Kanagawa arrested on suspicion of laundry theft

Yesterday, on the evening of the 19th, the head police officer was arrested on suspicion of stealing the laundry that was being left to dry in an apartment in Hadano City, Kanagawa Prefecture. The police officer had denied the allegations.  


The suspect is the 38-year-old head patrol officer belonging to the Community Affairs Division of the Ebina Police Station, Kanagawa Prefectural Police. 


Information revealed that the suspect had allegedly attempted to steal the laundry that was being put to dry on the first floor of the apartment in Hadano City at around 4:30 PM on the 19th. Noticing that there was a suspicious person who fled after rummaging through the laundry, a male resident of the building set out and was able to chase the officer.


The head police officer has been living in Hadano City and was off duty on the 19th. He also denied the allegations during questioning, confirming: “I did not do such a thing.” Further investigations are underway, and the Kanagawa Prefectural Police commented on how they will handle the matter seriously based on the results of the investigation. 


There have been several scandals involving the police officers affiliated with the Kanagawa Prefectural Police this year including a suspected home invasion. This incident marks the fifth case.
