Elderly woman in Tokyo passed away after her neck got caught in an escalator

On the morning of the 12th, an elderly woman was found collapsed with her neck caught near the handrail of an escalator. The woman was then transferred to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead. 

At around 10:30 AM on the 12th, the police received a report from OK Supermarket Higashi Fushimi Branch in Tokyo that “someone’s neck is caught in the escalator.” 

When paramedics and police officers arrived at the scene, they found an elderly woman collapsed near the handrail of the escalator with her neck caught. She was believed to have fallen over while taking the escalator from the first floor down to the basement floor. 

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the details of the case,
