Top 5 locations to visit in Tokyo for Solo Travelers

With a plethora of different attractions, shops, and neighborhoods to check, solo travelers to Tokyo might find it difficult to decide which locations to include in their itinerary.

1.    [Omotesando] Omotesando Hills

Omotesando Hills is one of the most bustling and famous shopping malls in all of Tokyo, where popular brands in Japan and all around the world gather. There is a total of roughly 100 stores spread out over 6 floors, including 3 floors underground and 3 above the ground. There are also many restaurants and cute cafes, making this place the perfect location for those who love to shop and cafe-hopping.

How to get there: 2-minute walk from Omotesando Station on the Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line

2.            [Yoyogi] Meiji Jingu Shrine 

Though located in the heart of Tokyo, visitors coming to Meiji Jingu Shrine might be taken away by how peaceful and tranquil the atmosphere is there, as if they have gotten lost in a different oasis. Thus, the Shrine is the perfect location for those looking for somewhere to destress. Built in 1920, Meiji Jingu Shrine was built to worship Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken and is reckoned as one of the most sacred shrines in Japan. Don’t forget to pray and draw an omikuji to check out your fortune if you have the chance to visit the shrine!

How to get there: A short walk from Harajuku Station, Meiji-Jingumae Station, a 5-minute walk from Sangubashi Station, Yoyogi Station, and Kitasando Station.

3. [Meguro] Meguro River 

Meguro River is well-known as one of the best locations for hanami in Tokyo. Thus, this area is always packed with people during the cherry blossom season. Located along the riverside are many stores, coffee shops, and restaurants, making this the perfect spot to visit during spring in Tokyo.

4. [Oshiage] Tokyo Solamachi and Tokyo Sky Tree

Located right under Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Solamachi is another huge shopping center that you should check out when visiting Tokyo. The complex has more than 300 shops with a wide variety of foods, products, and services available. 



Afterward, also make sure to check out Tokyo Skytree! Standing at 634 meters tall, Tokyo Skytree is the tallest standing radio tower in the world and one of the symbols of Tokyo city. There are two observation decks at 350 and 450 meters above ground respectively. The observation decks are covered in 5-meter-high glass and offer a stunning 360-degree panoramic view of the bustling Tokyo city. On days when the sky is clear, you can see up to 70 kilometers in the distance, and you can even spot some of Tokyo’s most iconic attractions such as Tokyo Dome, Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Bay, and even Mount Fuji!

How to get there: Right beside Tokyo Skytree Station on the Tobu Skytree Line

  • Solamachi: 10 AM - 9 PM, some floors are open 11 AM - 11 PM

5.         [Shiba Koen] Tokyo Tower 

Last but not least is Tokyo Tower. Standing at 333 meters tall, the tower is renowned to be one of the most, if not the most, iconic symbols of Tokyo City. The towers’ observation decks, located 150 meters and 250 meters high up respectively, offer a brilliant view of the bustling metropolitan area. Located below the tower is Foot Town - a commercial facility that provides a wide range of facilities, from shops, boutiques, cafes, and restaurants, to holding seasonal events and services.
