Some of the best festivals to attend in Tokyo during Golden Week

The long-awaited Golden Week is finally coming soon! How are your plans for the vacation going? To those who are still unsure of where to go; worry no more since GoEMON’s got your back!

In this article, GoEMON will introduce to you some of the best festivals in Tokyo during Golden Week that are perfect for both solo and traveling with families and friends.


1. Kameido Tenjin Shrine Wisteria Festival

Wisteria flowers are at their peak from late April to early May. Thus, one of the most famous activities during Golden Week in Tokyo is to participate in the Kameido Tenjin Shrine Wisteria Festival to adore the beautiful flowers. Located near Tokyo Skytree, this is one of the best locations to see wisterias in Tokyo. 


There will also be an illumination after sunset, so if you have some time to spare, why not stay a little longer? The breathtaking view of the flowers will surely meet, or even go beyond all of your expectations!

2. Fuji Shibazakura Festival

Another flower festival that you cannot miss during Golden Week is the Fuji Shibazakura Festival where you can see vast fields of shibazakura - also known as pink moss or phlox moss. The festival is held near Lake Motos on the foot of Mt. Fuji. 


The festival is typically held from mid-April to late May, and although this varies from year to year, the flowers are usually at their peaks from late April to early May. Visitors can buy shibazakura-themed souvenirs, enjoy traditional foods, and get local produce at the stalls nearby.

3. Tokyo Tower’s 333 Carp Streamers and Giant Pacific Saury Streamer

In honor of Children’s Day - an annual holiday that is a part of Golden Week, Tokyo Tower will be decorated with 333 carp swimmers of various sizes and colors, along with an additional giant 6-meter long Pacific Saury. The number of carp streamers is based on Tokyo Tower’s height, which is 333 meters.


The display can be found at the entrance of Tokyo Tower on the first floor.

4. Niku Fes

Niku Fes is one of the biggest food festivals in Tokyo, and as can be inferred from its name, the festival is perfect for those that are a fan of meat! It will be held during Golden Week at Komazawa Olympic Park’s Central Plaza, which is very close to the famous Gundam Statue in Odaiba. 


The festival serves a wide variety of meat options, both domestic and international, and even plant-based meat substitutes that are sure to satisfy all attendees. There will also be live music and stage performances which you can enjoy while savoring your meal.
