1. Marunouchi Illumination 2023 and Marunouchi Bright Christmas 2023 

The illumination at Marunouchi is one of the biggest and oldest light-up events in Tokyo. Each year, from late autumn until around mid-February, the trees along the Marunouchi area’s Nakadori Avenue will be decorated with a total of 1.2 million glittering fairy lights, creating a scenery so magnificent and beautiful that is sure to blow your mind away! 


This year, a special event will be held in Marunouchi to celebrate Christmas. With the theme of “Disney DREAMS & WISHES,” the event features several displays of your favorite Disney Series, such a Beaty and the Beast one in Marunouchi Brick Square or a huge Christmas tree inspired by the movie Frozen in Marunouchi Oaza. This is definitely an occasion that Disney enthusiasts should not miss!

In preparation for Christmas, a series of events will be held in Roppongi, the most popular among which is the Keyazaki illumination. Since the beginning of November this year, the streets of Keyazaki Dori have been sparkling with the appearance of roughly 800,000 thousand sparkling LED lights. 


If there is time, you can also check out the light-ups at Mohri Garden and Luminous Bouquet (located at Roku-Roku Plaza), or pass by to see the Cartier Christmas Tree at  WEST WALK 2F South Atrium. 



3. Midtown Christmas 2023

When it comes to celebrating Christmas and illumination events in Tokyo, one location that you definitely cannot miss is Tokyo Midtown. Held annually, Midtown Christmas is one of the hottest dating spots for couples in the days leading up to Christmas. The concept for this year is called “BE ENCHANTED…,” and rightfully so, as you are sure to be blown away by the magnificent and sophisticated display of golden lights at the Midtown Garden. 


This year, there is also a need addition of a new sustainable display, featuring Christmas trees made from discarded branches. The Midtown Ice Rink is also available to those who want to try skating.

You can also have fun hanging out at the amusement park nearby or checking out the many stores and restaurants available there. 



5. Yomiuriland Jewellumination


Known as Tokyo’s largest amusement park, Yomiuriland is also famous for its large-scale illumination event called Jewellumination. This year, the park combines the image of the vast sea with aquamarine and sapphire, lush forests with emerald, land with golden sapphire, clouds with diamonds, and love with ruby to symbolize “Love for the Earth,” as per its theme of “LIGHT is LOVE.” Featuring more than 10 illumination spots, the park is sure to impress all visitors. 


6. Tokyo Mega Illumi 2023

When it comes to light-up events in Tokyo, one definitely cannot miss out on Tokyo Megal Illumi. The event is held in the Oi Racecourse on its non-race days, featuring millions of LED sparkling and brightening up a whole area. 


One of the most interesting and famous events here is the horse event, where cute horses and ponies will appear on the grounds. Illuminated areas include Solami Zakka - a popular spot for taking pictures of the Skytree and the nearby shopping mall Sky Arena. There will also be an impressive 8-meter-tall Christmas Tree placed in front of the tower, making it a perfect photo spot!
