A young girl in her second grade of elementary school suddenly collapsed after finishing gym class in Date City, Hokkaido. She was taken to the hospital on suspicion of heat stroke but later passed away.
The 8-year-old girl was taken to the hospital on suspicion of heat stroke after a school teacher reported to the fire department about her sudden collapse and loss of consciousness after finishing P.E. class shortly before noon on the 22nd.
According to the city’s Board of Education, the girl was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
On the day of the incident, the girl participated in ball-throwing activities at the schoolyard for the 4th-period physical education class. She then collapsed on her way back to the school building after the class had ended.
In Date City, the highest temperature recorded on the 22nd was 33.5°C.
