Starting from 1 October, the minimum wage in Tokyo will be increased by 50 yen, raising it to 1,163 yen per hour. In light of this change, the Tokyo Labor Bureau has requested the cooperation of economic organizations in the city to inform people of this new minimum wage rate.
Office Chief Tomita of the Tokyo Labor Bureau paid a visit to the Tokyo Employer’s Association in Chiyoda Ward to hand a formal request to its Managing Director - Nemoto.
More specifically, the request states that starting from October, the minimum wage in Tokyo will be set at 1,163 yen per hour, which applies to all workers regardless of age anf type of employment such as part-time and temporary workers. It also asks member companies and organizations to inform employees of available government support measures for corporations that require assistance.
Upon receiving the request, Managing Director Nemoto assured that the association would inform its members of all relevant information, including that about the subsidies.
The 50-yen increase in Tokyo’s minimum wage is the largest since the calculation system was introduced in 2002. Office Chief Tomita added: “The increase may be challenging for small and medium-sized enterprises, so I hope they will make use of the available subsidies to deal with the situation.”
