Shibuya holds Virtual Halloween Event for 2024

Due to concerns that large crowds of young people and foreigners will gather around Shibuya Station during Halloween, which may lead to troubles and crow-related incidents, Shibuya Ward has been urging people to avoid visiting the area for Halloween this year. To ensure public safety, the ward is holding an online event where people can enjoy Halloween in a virtual space that recreates the streets of Shibuya.

Known as “Virtual Halloween,” the event is organized annually around this time of year by KDDI, a major mobile carrier, the Shibuya City Tourism Association, and others to encourage people to enjoy the festivities of Halloween from the comfort of their own homes.

In this virtual space, iconic spots in Shibuya, such as the Shibuya Crossing and the Hachiko statue, will be brought to life. Users can download an application and control their avatar to navigate the virtual streets.

Users can also converse with others by sending messages through real-time chat and participating in different events, such as live music performances and puzzle-solving.

The "Virtual Halloween" event will be held until the 30th of next month.
