On the 24th, a 17-year-old female high school student living in Soka City, Saitama Prefecture was arrested on suspicion of keeping the dead body of a baby at her residence. According to the police, the girl was accused of body abandonment by leaving the body in a container at her home.
The incident came to light on the 23rd after the student’s mother reported to the police that: “The child that my daughter gave birth to has died.” The baby was a boy. As there were no external injuries, it is not yet known whether the cause of death was due to stillborn or other reasons.
When investigated, the student said she hid the baby because she couldn’t let anyone know about her giving birth. Further investigations on the circumstances of the case are being carried out.
