The Osaka Prefectural Board of Education has given a pay cut to a 54-year-old male teacher of a prefectural high school for making sexually suggestive comments such as “I love you,” “You can get married when you turn 16, right?” and adding “chan” to her name.
According to the Osaka Prefectural Board of Education, since the beginning of April this year, the 54-year-old male teacher had repeatedly engaged in making several inappropriate remarks and behaviors, such as talking about brothels and love hotels during class time in order to win his students’ favor.
He also reportedly made comments like “I love you,” and “You can get married when you turn 16, right?” to a female student. This caused her to develop a sense of fear and dislike towards him and she eventually ended up skipping classes.
The incident came to light when the female student consulted another teacher about the issue.
As a result, the male teacher was imposed a one-month pay cut by the Osaka Prefectural Board of Education.
Upon questioning, the teacher explained how he thought those comments would make the students laugh and thus be able to win their favor. He added how he felt close to the female student because she would always return his greetings, as well as show regret towards his actions and promise never to do it again.
