According to the Guinness World Records, Maria Branyas Morera - who was recognized as the world’s oldest person, has recently passed away at the age of 117 on the 19th of this month.
Born in the United States in 1907, Branyas moved to Spain during her childhood and has lived through two world wars, as well as the Spanish Civil War. Over the past 20 years, she has been living in a nursing facility in Catalonia, northeastern Spain, and had almost no health issues. She was even able to recover within a few days after contracting COVID-19 when she was 113.
Branyas reportedly attributed her longevity to the maintenance of good relationships with family and friends, as well as not having worries or regrets.
On the 20th, her family posted on social media, saying that Branyas had passed away peacefully in her sleep, without any pain, just as she had wished.
Thus, an American research group studying longevity believes that Tomiko Itooka, a woman living in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, is now the world's oldest living person at 116 years old.
