Irritated because dinner did not taste good, a 50-year-old unemployed man attempted to burn down his parents’ house

An unemployed man living in a two-story house in Mitsuke City, Niigata Prefecture, was arrested for attempting to burn down his parent’s house. He first set fire to some clothing items, then put out the flames himself, fearing the fire would spread.

A 50-year-old unemployed man living in Fukushima-cho, Misuke City, Niigata Prefecture, was arrested today on suspicion of setting fire to a residential building. The man’s relative discovered that he had burnt some clothes and reported the incident to the police.

According to the police, the man is suspected of having set fire to his father’s laundry, which was hung out to dry near the kitchen on the first floor of the building, with a lighter at around 6 PM on October 10. He attempted to burn the house down but got scared as the fire started to spread and ended up putting the fire out himself.

Upon investigation, the man admitted to having set the laundry on fire and then put it out himself. The parents, along with their 3 sons are currently living in this residence. The man explained his incentive, saying: “The dinner that we had together was not good so I got irritated.”

The spread of the fire left part of the walls, floors, and carpet burnt. The police are further investigating the incident and the man’s detailed incentive.
