A suspension bridge collapsed in Morbi, Gujarat, western India, on 30 October, killing 132 people, Indian media reported, according to local officials.
Many people were on the bridge at the time of the accident and may not have been able to bear the weight. Most of those who died were women, children, and elderly people.
The bridge had just been repaired and opened to the public on October 26, the Gujarat New Year. With a history of more than 100 years, it was a popular tourist destination known locally as the "swaying bridge". It is said that many visitors deliberately shook the bridge to enjoy it.
