On the 25th, a resident of Saitama Prefecture was arrested on suspicion of violating the Public Offence Election Act after allegedly damaging and removing a campaign poster from a bulletin board for the Lower House election.
The arrested individual is a 79-year-old, unemployed resident of Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture.
According to the police, at around 7 PM on the 25th, the suspect allegedly damaged and removed one campaign poster for a candidate in Saitama’s second district for the House of Representative election.
Prior to the arrest, there had been several reports of instances where posters were removed. On high alert, the police reportedly witnessed the suspect removing the posters and arrested him on the spot.
Upon questioning, the suspect admitted to the allegations, saying that he committed the act for fun. Further investigations into the details of the situation are underway.
This marks the first time that an arrest was made for a violation of the same kind in Saitama Prefecture for this term’s Lower House election.
