Forecaster's tweet. Pollen dispersal number is the highest in the past ten years

According to a cedar male flower bud survey conducted by the Ministry of the Environment, the number of male cedar flowers is expected to be extremely high this year in Tokyo, Fukushima, Kanagawa, Niigata, Toyama, Ishikawa, Kyoto, Hyogo, Okayama, Tottori, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka prefectures, with the number of male cedar flowers higher than the maximum in the past ten years.

Be especially careful on days like this!

Pollen counts are highly dependent on the weather. There are three weather conditions that make it particularly easy for pollen to fly.

(1) After the rain.

When it clears up the day after it rains, the pollen pops out all at once. Pollen that has fallen to the ground due to rain may dry up and rise up.

(2) Strong winds.

Pollen is blown far and wide. Be especially careful when strong winds blow from the direction of the mountains, where there are many cedar trees.

(3) Sunny and warm

High pressure with dry continental air often comes in spring. When it's sunny, the air is dry, so the pollen can fly out without being disturbed by the humidity. The higher the temperature, the more pollen is released from the flowers.

Next week is expected to be warmer across the country, with warmer air prevailing. Pollen counts could be even higher than this week. Make sure you take all the precautions you can, such as wearing clothing made of polyester, which is resistant to pollen, wearing a hat, and wearing glasses.
